2004 Tour: Art / Music of Suran Song in Stag on CD: KITTY IGLOO & THE PLASTIC STEREO

Suran Song in Stag, the critically acclaimed art-pop combo, is releasing KITTY IGLOO & THE PLASTIC STEREO on June 4, 2004. The duo will tour the U.S. The duo will tour the U.S. continuously through 2005. This is the band's fourth full-length CD release, and follows Cowboys and Indians (2001), Pure Agitator (1999), and Shiny Objects (1997). According to the band, Kitty Igloo & The Plastic Stereo is, "Johnny Soko, Dorothy Gale, George Bailey, and Willie Wonka in the fantasy quest to unplug The Plastic Stereo (think Clear Channel or Rupert Murdock)."

With colorful pluck, Suran Song in Stag's extra-melodic new songs and streamlined live visuals generate jujitsu knockouts to The Plastic Stereo and the cruel slogans it relentlessly spews: 'Enforce intimacy! Decorate punishment! Accelerate relaxation!' As the band faces off with robber-baron thugs, sleepy heads, blue meanies, and jealous dogs, they find friends along the way living in all things kawaii (the Japanese term for the hyper-cute), in shadows of empty drawing rooms, in sparkly things such as snow, in swinging chandeliers, in old T.V. shows like The Avengers, and in the twilight haze of forests. Musically, the band has simplified too. In the new streamlined spirit of hummable melodies, Suran Song in Stag will tour the U.S. as a duo, with vocals, punked-out fuzzy electric bass, and analog drum loops. Shonen Knife, Redd Kross, and Carol King are musical guideposts for the 12 new songs.

Optimistic, wholesome, and sentimental, Kitty Igloo & The Plastic Stereo explores a techni-color supernatural world where cuddly creatures, floating round moon-heads, and scenes of innocent pastimes are foreground to politico thugs, sleeping giants, and ravenous databases. Martin Bisi (Lydia Lunch, Brian Eno, Sonic Youth, Cop Shoot Cop) serves as producer. Suran Song in Stag is William Weis (bass), Suran Song (vocals), plus the drum loops of Douglas McEachern.

The band will be in your area in June for a Record Release Party (dates at www.cruelmusic.com). Distribution will be handled through Cruel Music online, and by select record shops also listed at the web site.
